Income Goals started with a simple frustration. UK investing is not actually that complicated, yet most of the information out there makes it feel that way. Articles are either thin and full of jargon, or written to sell you a product rather than to help you understand. For someone trying to open their first ISA or work out whether a pension is the smarter home for their next £100, that is exhausting and offputting.
We built this site to be the resource we wished we had when we were starting out: clear, honest, UK-specific, and written in plain English. No hype, no fear, and no pretending that investing is a secret club only certain people are allowed to join.
What we believe
We believe that building wealth is mostly about a handful of sensible habits repeated patiently over a long time. Spend less than you earn, use your tax-free allowances, keep costs low, stay diversified, and avoid the temptation to tinker. None of that requires a finance degree. It just requires someone to explain it without talking down to you, and that is the job we have set ourselves.
We also believe in being upfront about what investing is and is not. Markets go down as well as up. There are no guaranteed returns, and anyone promising them is best avoided. Our aim is to help you make calm, informed decisions that suit your own situation, not to push you toward any particular product.
What you will find here
Our guides cover the ground that matters most for UK investors: getting started, tax-efficient accounts such as ISAs and SIPPs, low-cost index funds and passive investing, dividend and income investing, and planning for retirement and financial independence. Each guide is designed to be read on its own, but they also link together so you can follow a topic from the basics through to the finer detail at your own pace.
Where a topic touches tax rules or allowances, we do our best to keep it current for the relevant UK tax year. Rules do change, though, so we always encourage you to check the latest figures and, where your situation is complex, to take regulated advice.
A note on independence
The site is funded by advertising and by the guides and handbooks we produce ourselves. That keeps the core content free to read. It also means we have no incentive to steer you toward any particular bank, broker or fund, and we never accept payment to recommend a specific product. Our editorial decisions are our own.
Important: this is not financial advice
Everything on Income Goals is general information and education, not personal financial advice. We do not know your individual circumstances, and nothing here should be taken as a recommendation to buy or sell any specific investment. If you need advice tailored to your situation, please speak to a qualified, FCA-regulated financial adviser.
